TP Health Ltd and AWE Plc are hosting a four-day Emergency Radiation Medicine course aimed at all allied health professionals working in the field of Radiation. The course may appeal to members of OH teams working in the UK nuclear industry. Other health professionals working with radiation or general emergency response teams in the NHS or military. The course will take place in its entirety on site at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Berkshire and for FOM members attracts 20 CPD points, accredited by The Faculty of Occupational Medicine.
The Course content will include the history of the discovery of ionising radiation, radiation physics, radiobiology, dosimetry, biological monitoring, radiation protection, radiation hazards, submarine reactors and medical plans, psychological effects of radiation incidents, treatment of acute radiation syndrome and contamination, radiation casualties and triage, examples of irradiation incidents, decontamination demonstrations and exercises, tabletop exercises of incidents and is supported by a final examination to help underpin the knowledge learned during the course. There will be a diverse faculty, with speakers from departments at AWE, the Defence Nuclear Industry, Public Health England and TP Health Ltd.
